Her sister, is mostly on the sideline of the story, but nevertheless becomes an important character as it comes to an end.  To protect their identities they both write under assumed names.

Mr. Brown wins a large prize in lotto and he and his wife travel to England to visit family and then to Italy where he coincidently meets Antonia who is Alessandra's twin sister, a nun.

The story ends with a surprising twist when the main characters meet in Florence.
